by Peter Balin and Michael Owen
The Xultun Tarot was created by New Zealander Peter Balin in 1976 based on images from Maya history and culture. It was the first of the non-European or indigenous tarot decks. It is the only tarot deck where the major arcana form a complete picture. To see the majors and minors and a full colour pdf download of the major arcana go to xultun.com.
This picture tells the story of the alchemical marriage of spirit and matter and what C G Jung called the individuation process. Jung and the Xultun Tarot: Lovesongs of Spirit and Earth by Michael Owen is the companion handbook to this Classic Edition of the cards.
The new edition of the Xultun Tarot is cause for celebration.
—Rachel Pollack, author of Tarot Wisdom
In Peter Balin’s single painting of the twenty-two Major Arcana of the Tarot, we have a multi-textured tapestry that depicts the Self.... its myths and symbols that can take your personal work with any tarot deck to a new level.—Mary K Greer, author of 21 Ways to Read a Tarot Card
In collaboration with Peter Balin, Kahurangi Press has undertaken to reprint the original edition of the cards. Only 500 of these original decks were ever printed in 1976 and they are now a rare collector's item. The 2011 Classic Edition is printed to the exact specifications of the original 1976 deck and true to its larger size and vibrant colours.
The Xultun Tarot is different from
other tarot decks. Brought to life by Peter Balin's artistic skill, the major arcana clearly reveal the profound archetypal patterns, teachings and
symbolism held within all tarot decks including:
>The Four Stages of individuation
>The Three Paths of psychological and spiritual development
>The Four Archetypal Movements of the Book of Life
>How each card dreams,
awakens, makes love with, marries, separates from, and completes each
of the other cards
>All woven on the Loom of Time with the
beauty of Maya culture and history
Please note: The cards do not come with an "instruction booklet". To fully understand the depth and alchemy of the major arcana we recommend you purchase them as a bundle with the companion handbook (major arcana only) Jung and the Xultun Tarot. The standard meanings of the Xultun minor arcana can be sourced from the many other books on tarot.
The Lotus Press 1978 edition of the Xultun Tarot, not authorised by Peter Balin, is sold on Amazon. The price reflects its mass printing, muddy colours, and smaller playing card size.
